Meditation on the Mission Statement
To Know
The grace and love of God through a
personal relationship with Jesus Christ
Our God is an Awesome God
Scriptures:
Is. 43:15-21, Hosea 10:12-13, Acts
17:24-29, Ps. 66:1-20
Question:
Are you impressed with God?
Over time we can get so “familiar” with the Lord that we lose touch with how incredible He really is. We forget to be amazed! The experience of knowing God begins with a clear understanding of His nature and attributes. Meditate and make a list today of some of the great qualities of the Lord that impress you. Remember the long list of things He has done in the world… and for you in your life. Read the passage from Hosea and meditate on the question, “Isn’t it once again ‘time to seek’ God again in your life?”
Grace is Still Amazing
Scriptures:
Eph. 2:8-10, Rom. 5:1-8, II Thes.
2:16-17, Heb. 4:14-16
Question:
Are you still inspired by the free
gift of grace?
Everything we do for the Lord should spring from our gratitude for what He has done for us. Our Christian service gets stale when we forget the undeserved favor God has shown in our lives. We begin to do things out of habit or duty, but not out of the “eternal encouragement” which comes from grace. Think about where you were before God’s grace came into your life. Where would you be without it today? Read the Hebrews passage and put it into practice by approaching God’s throne with confidence today. Be joyful and serve God with thankfulness!
Lavish, Life-Changing Love
Scriptures:
I John 3:1, Jer. 31:3-4, Luke
15:11-32
Question:
What is your picture of the love
of God?
When it come to love, our Heavenly Father does not give us “just enough to get by.” He LAVISHES it upon us! The bible describes an “everlasting” love that should make us want to rejoice and dance! Jesus gave us a picture of our patient, passionate, loving Father so we would never want to leave home again. Take time today to think about the many ways God has shown His love to you. In what ways have you been like the prodigal son in Luke 15? How has God responded to your sin and repentance? Celebrate God’s love today!
Saved Forever in Christ
Scriptures:
Acts 2:36-39, Rom. 6:3-7, I Pet.
3:21-22, John 3:3-7
Question:
Have you lost touch with your
conversion?
As disciples we have spent a lot of time teaching our friends and families about being converted, but we should never forget that all those “baptism scriptures” are for us too! In fact, most of the baptism scriptures in the bible are written to remind CHRISTIANS what has already happened in their lives. Think about the events, thoughts and emotions that led you to be “born again.” What feelings were in your heart right after you were baptized? Think about the promises God makes to everyone who is truly converted. These promises are for you today!
Knowing Our Father in Heaven
Scriptures:
Jer. 31:31-34, Luke 11:1-13, I Pet.
5:6-7, Heb. 10:19-25
Question: How
personal is your walk with God?
Knowing God involves a lot more than outward things like reading the bible, attending services and doing good deeds. Each of us is called to have a unique and personal relationship with our Father – a relationship that comes from the heart! Are there things in your spiritual life that you’ve only been doing out of duty, habit or because other people expect you to? Think about ways you can walk closer to the heart of God every day and make your relationship with Him more personal this week.
The Image of the Invisible God
Scriptures:
Col. 1:15-20, John 1:1-14,14:6-10,
Phil. 2:5-8
Question:
What is your picture of Jesus
Christ?
We can know a lot about God by looking at the world He has made and the deeds He has done. But our clearest picture of God comes when we look at Jesus. He is the exact representation of God’s nature – the Word become flesh! Meditate and make a list of all the great characteristics of Jesus. What are His qualities that impress you the most? Which of His characteristics are most unlike your own? Ask God to help you better understand and imitate the heart and life of His Son this week.
Giving God Our All
Scriptures:
Mark 12:30-31, Eph. 6:7, Ps. 42:1-2,
Rom. 8:5-8, 12:11
Question:
Are you loving God with all your
heart, soul, mind and strength?
There is no way that we can love God in the perfect way that He deserves. We are, and will always be, sinful and inadequate. But we CAN grow! He doesn’t just want our token efforts; He wants our ALL. Think about the things in your life (other than your walk with God) that you do “wholeheartedly.” Think about the things that tend to take control of your soul and mind during the week. What activities tend to use up most of your strength? How can you grow in putting God first in your heart, soul, mind and strength?
