Their region has been studying the 23rd Psalm
last week was the Lord is My Shepherd
this week - I shall not be in want
Phil 4:10-13
1)  I do not lack anything
we all believe he is our shepherd, but have a harder time with number 2
2)  I desire nothing because the Lord is my shepherd;  I have all I need
Paul backs this in Phil 4
He has been in prison for 10 years
It has been 10 years since he preached, received love and support
He is restricted, chained to a Roman soldier, for 10 years
Paul's response is not our response
we would be discouraged, depressed, mad at God
Paul's response - I know you were concerned for me, but you did not have the opportunity
He believed in God's providence
His needs were not met because of God's timing
We need to learn what it means to be content in the Lord
Our contentment and joy come from our circumstances
Paul's didn't
He was waiting on his death sentence; yet he rejoiced greatly
He believed the one who orchestrates everything, our God, has perfect timing
Contentment is a Biblical word
1 Tim 6:6-8
all I need is food and clothing and my Lord
are we there?
Do you know what discontentment is?
my desire to control things -- impatience, greed and a desire for more
not because we need it but because we want it
We live in a world of discontentment
It's preached to us
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want
Heb 13:5   be content with what you have because God will never leave you or forsake you
If we don't feel like God is with us, it's based on our circumstances
Paul learned the secret of contentment - to rely on God's strength

I can do anything verse in Philippians - people think that is the get rich verse
It's a get rich in God verse
God will provide everything for us in perfect timing

Here's the definition of contentment:
1) I have enough
2)  I am satisfied

When we're not satisfied, and we start going after other things, we're worshipping other Gods -- money, a title, power
are we learning from our situations to be content?   OR do we get spiritual in times of need and then go right back to ourselves when it's over?

1 Cor 3:5-7
God makes things grow
we need to work as hard as we possibly can to do what we can do within our physical power, and then let  God do the rest
faith and deeds
Need to have faith God will provide in his time
