IV.      Salvation

Main Point:  We are saved by grace through faith in Christ at baptism.

John 3:1-5

·        We cannot enter the kingdom unless we are born again.

·        We must die to our old way of life and our past sins.

·        We cannot enter the kingdom unless we are born of water and the spirit.

Romans 8:5-9

·        We cannot please God if we are controlled by our sinful nature.

·        We do not belong to Christ if we do not have the spirit of Christ.

Matthew 16:15-19

·        Christ is the son of God and Peter is the son of a man.

·        Peter was going to be given the keys of the kingdom.  He would tell the people how to be saved.

·        What Peter would say about being saved would be bound in heaven and earth.

Acts 2:36-41

·        Peter informs the people that they have crucified Jesus (through their sins).

·        The response of the people was to be cut to the heart and to become humble and ask, “What shall we do?”

·        Peter gives the keys to the kingdom by saying repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

·        Peter binds this promise for all people.

Romans 6:1-4

·        We die to our sin at baptism.

·        We are raised to live a new life at baptism.

·        We are born again of the water and spirit at baptism.

Matthew 28:18-20

·        We baptize people who are willing to be disciples.
